Kimmel played the 2009 Fall season left handed

NEW YORK, NY – Senior Stephanie Kimmel has been named to the Skyline’s All-Conference second team for women’s tennis, as announced yesterday by the conference Commissioner.  This is Kimmel’s second time on the All-Conference team; she was part of the first team in 2007.

In 2007, Stephanie made the first team using her dominant right hand.  A shoulder injury at the beginning of the 2008 season left her sidelined for the year, unable to hold her racket and swing with her right arm.  Determined to play the 2009 season, she learned to play with her left hand, and did so the entire season as the team’s #1 singles player.  At the #1 position, she went 4-2 losing only to the conference’s rookie of the year and tournament MVP Gabriella Murphy-Goldberg (Mount Saint Mary’s), and first team All-Conference member from Bard, Sofia Commito.  Kimmel also played in one #3 match, winning that and ending the first half of the season with a 5-2 singles record.

"Stephanie has an unbelievable can-do attitude. She also possesses a quiet determination about her and deeply believes in herself and her abilities”, said Coach Jay Barston.  “That is what makes her such an exceptional competitor and Stern College student-athlete role model."

In 2007, Stephanie went 7-3 in #1 singles and 6-4 in doubles play.  Before her injury last season, she was 1-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.  For her career to date, she stands at 13-6 in singles play and 8-6 in doubles play.  The spring half of the season is set to begin on March 14th, in which there will be 8 more matches.
