NEW YORK, NY – Anthony Macapugay, HVWAC sports information director, released the players of the week for the week ending September 13th, and Atara Karnarfogel (Teaneck, NJ/Bruriah) was selected as the women's soccer athlete of the week. David Sweet (Chicago, IL/Fasman Yeshiva) was named to the cross country honor roll for his performance at the Baruch Invitational. Dena Shayne (Great Neck, NY/YUHS) was the third Maccabee to garner an award, being named to the honor roll in women's volleyball.
Karnarfogel was a crucial part in the Maccabees' first victory of the season over Berkeley (4-0), scoring three times and assisting on the other goal. She opened the scoring in the 15th minute, and scored again only 6 minutes later. After assisting on the team's third goal, she scored again in the 71st minute, completing the hat trick and securing the win.
David Sweet helped the men to a 5th place finish in the Baruch Invitational on Sunday, running the 8K course in 33:27. His time was good for 15th place overall.
Dena Shayne had a strong week for Yeshiva, recording 16 digs, 8 kills, and 8 service aces in all 11 sets that YU played.
The women's soccer team is in action on Wednesday at 8:00PM against Old Westbury at Tibbetts Brook Park. The cross country team will not compete again until Sunday, October 18th. Women's volleyball will host Sarah Lawrence at home Wednesday, beginning at 8:00PM.
