Basketball Teams Introduced on NYS Assembly Floor Before Game

Men's and Women's Basketball Team with Speaker Silver (top center)
NEW YORK, NY – Both the men's and women's basketball teams were introduced on the floor of the New York State Assembly by Sheldon Silver, Speaker of the NYS Assembly, prior to their away contest at Sage early in January. The experience was a unique opportunity offered only to the Maccabees.
After being met at the front doors by Speaker Silver's assistant, the group was brought to a conference room where they got to meet Mr. Silver before being introduced to the rest of the Assembly. "It was a unique opportunity for the players and coaches to meet the Speaker of the Assembly and experience first hand the awe of the Capitol building and the pomp associated with the legislative process", said Coach Halpert.
When introduced on the floor, Speaker Silver spoke about his YU playing days and relationship with Dr. Halpert. The two played against each other in High School before becoming teammates at Yeshiva. Following the introduction, the teams remained and were allowed to hear remarks regarding the crisis in Haiti. Before leaving, they were given a private tour of the Capitol building.
