NEW YORK - The Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) announced its year-end women's soccer award winners recently, and a pair of Yeshiva University midfielders, senior
Meira Lerner (Sharon, Mass.) and junior
Yael Roberts (Potomac, Md.), were cited on the all-conference team.
The duo were also named to the HVWAC All-Conference team in 2011, and received All-Academic team kudos in the process.
Lerner broke into the YU history books in the Maccabees' final HVWAC regular-season contest of the 2012 campaign against Medgar Evers (Oct. 26), when she netted a hat trick in the 4-0 triumph over the Cougars. She became the first Yeshiva player to notch three goals in a contest since Atara Kanarfogel accomplished the feat against Berkeley College on Sept. 13, 2009, and Lerner received the HVWAC's Player of the Week award for her performance.
Roberts and Lerner provided solid defense and build-up play through the midfield all season long, including the Macs' HVWAC semifinal match against Berkeley College (Oct. 28), when YU fell by a narrow 1-0 margin.
Lerner, Roberts and the rest of interim head coach Christine Serdjenian Yearwood's Yeshiva side will wrap up regular-season play Thursday (Nov. 15), when it plays host to City College of New York at Silver Lake Park in W. Harrison, N.Y., at 7:30 p.m.
