NEW YORK - The Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference announced its cross country all-conference teams recently, and three members of Yeshiva University squad were named to the list: senior team captain
Samuel Cohen (Thornhill, Ont.), classmate
Oliver Sax (University Heights, Ohio) and sophomore
Dov Levine (W. Hempstead, N.Y.).
Cohen, the 2011 individual champion at the HVMAC meet, received one conference Runner of the Week citation in his senior campaign, after placing 12th at the Oct. 14, St. John's Fall Festival with a time of 18:06.58. He followed up that performance with a second-place time of 27:58 at the HVMAC Championships (Oct. 21), finishing just two seconds behind Sax in helping first-year head coach Brendan Donoghue's Maccabees to place six runners in the top-eight.
Sax, who ironically finished just behind Cohen in the conference championships one year ago, was named HVMAC Runner of the Week in early September, after placing third at the Baruch Invitational (Oct. 9) with a 29:49 effort at Van Cortlandt Park. He also placed in the top-20 at the St. John's Fall Festival, before his winning 27:56 jaunt at the HVMAC Championships.
Levine placed 20th at the Baruch (32:55) and St. John's (18:33.16) meets, before running to a 30:17 time at the HVMAC Championships; he was the first non-senior to cross the finish line at the Bard College course.
Donoghue's Maccabees now await word on the rescheduling of their final two meets of the 2012 campaign -- the Skyline Conference Championships, and the Halloween Run. Both meets were postponed in the wake of the inclement weather that has hit the tri-state area in the last week.
