NEW YORK - Capital One released its women's basketball Academic All-District teams Thursday afternoon, and Yeshiva University junior student-athlete, forward
Rebecca Yoshor (Houston, Texas) was named to the District 3 team in the NCAA Division III category.
Yoshor, who was named the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference's (HVWAC) Player of the Week for the fourth time this season on Tuesday (Jan. 29), is one of 46 Division III student-athletes now eligible to receive Capital One Academic All-America honors this year. The team is announced for NCAA Division III student-athletes on Feb. 19, and if Yoshor is selected to the prestigious squad, she would be the first female student-athlete in YU history to garner such distinction. According to CoSIDA's archives, the only other Academic All-American in Maccabees history is former men's basketball student-athlete, Eric Davis (1991).
Yoshor carries a 3.97 grade point average (4.0 scale) as an English literature major, with a minor in psychology. Like all Yeshiva undergraduates, she endures a challenging dual curriculum, taking Jewish studies courses in the morning before studying for her secular degree in the afternoon.
On the basketball court, Yoshor has been a double-double machine in her two seasons in a YU uniform, having collected 10-plus points and rebounds in 27 of her 32 career contests -- including 12 times in her 14 appearances in 2012-13. She leads first-year head coach
Nesta Felix's Maccabees this season in scoring (16.7 ppg), rebounding (14.1 rpg) and blocked shots (2.9 bpg), and holds national rankings among NCAA Division III players in five statistical categories. Through games played Jan. 27, Yoshor ranks third nationally in both rebounding and double-doubles, while her blocked shots average checked in at No. 26. Her scoring average and field-goal percentage were tabbed as the 60th and 84th-best marks in the land, respectively.
During her rookie (sophomore) campaign in 2011-12, Yoshor ranked No. 2 nationally across all three NCAA divisions in rebounding (14.6 rpg), en route to earning All-Conference and All-Academic honors from the HVWAC.
Yeshiva is back in HVWAC action Monday night (Feb. 4), when it takes on Berkeley College in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Baruch's ARC Arena.
